AlUla – 19 February, 2024: Film AlUla, the Royal Commission for AlUla’s film agency, is underway with construction on a state-of-the-art recording studio, expanding its recently launched cutting-edge studio complex.
Set to open in June 2024, the recording studio will comprise of 190 sq m of studio space, a 47sq m control room and two Iso booths, as well as catering facilities and a rack room. The studio is designed to be a dynamic space and can be used for individual artists, choirs, rehearsals for film work, music videos, orchestral work and more. Film AlUla worked closely with industry experts to design the facilities, which will provide state-of-the-art audio and recording equipment that is coveted by experienced recording engineers and artists.
This development marks Film AlUla’s entrance into the music space, and further underscores its commitment to becoming a full-service creative hub which provides an unparalleled destination for creatives to immerse themselves in the region’s breathtaking locations, whilst having access to world-class facilities.
The Kingdom has a burgeoning music scene which includes everything from EDM to opera, following the launch of the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Culture, General Entertainment Authority and Music Commission to oversee the development of the Kingdom’s music sector. Hosting concerts and festivals with local and internationally renowned artists, there is a growing, passionate community of music lovers in the region. AlUla is at the forefront of this development, hosting the Azimuth festival annually which in 2023 saw Peggy Gou, R&B singer Jorja Smith and Egyptian rock sensation Cairokee headlining. It is also home to Maraya, a breathtaking multi-purpose venue which holds regular concerts from the likes of Alicia Keys, Andrea Bocelli and most recently James Blunt. The Kingdom has many established and up-and-coming talent, with artists such as Sawsan Albahiti, The Saudi Arwa, Zena Emad, Aedh Yousef and Dalia Mubarak being recognised across the Middle East and internationally, performing at the increasingly popular events held across the region alongside international talent.
Charlene Deleon-Jones, Executive Director of Film AlUla, said: “Following the successful launch of our film studios last year, we are continuing to strategically expand the complex and become a one-stop destination for creatives, with the recording studio being a natural next step in this vision. We are delighted to welcome artists from June this year, who we have no doubt will be inspired by the magnificent surroundings and heritage that AlUla has to offer while making the most of our cutting-edge facilities to create magic.”
Phase One of Film AlUla’s studio complex included the launch of two 26,000 sq ft soundstages, as well as a production building housing hair and makeup rooms, wardrobe facilities, office spaces, board rooms, and dressing rooms. The complex also includes 15,400 sq ft workshops for each stage, RV parking areas for each stage, an administration building, a sound recording studio, kitchen and events space as well as a 61,500 sq ft backlot for additional temporary infrastructure and set builds.
The soundstages are 14 minutes from the Film AlUla Residence, the purpose-built crew quarters with 300 high-quality, fully furnished accommodation units, film-friendly office space for short and long-term stays and a range of high-end and mid-range accommodation options.
